Hello! :3
I know many people live in towns and do not let their cats outdoors due to the risk of them getting runover. This is a wise precaution, but if you have a small house without at least a terrace where your cat can go it may not be suitable for you to own a cat at all.
It is ideal for a domestic cat, adapted to life in a human's home, to spend about half of their time inside and half outside. Or more, or less, depending on the age of the cat and what it's used to.
Cats should be allowed to go outside, and here are some reasons why it's a good idea to let your cat go out at least a little.
- They'll be healthier.
- They'll enjoy themselves.
- They will not scratch furniture half so much.
Of course, there are more reasons as well. They are only the main ones. Get a cat-flap! :3
And let your cat go outside! :D If they are used to being cooped up, they may need some encouragement at first, but (unless they are old) they will soon be running about and climbing trees!
That's Humbug, my cat, in the picture! He's nine months old, and he's enjoyed climbing trees and exploring the outdoors ever since he was one month old.
Cats don't have to be let out, but if you live in a small house, it would be much nicer to let your cat out. Assuming, of course, it doesn't go out already.
Coolest blog ever! I've a kitten called Spots but hes still timid although he has lived with us for so long! What should I do? Of course, he comes to us when we stroke and cuddle him. He loves that! :D
ReplyDeleteI WOULD like to let Ginger (my cat) go outside, but my parents say that she'll get dirty and have fleas D: Do Treacle, Samy, Paws and Humbug get any fleas?
ReplyDeleteI'll reply to both comments in one comment. :)
Delete@ ❋♫ℳℐℳℐ♪❅ - Thank you! :D Well, some cats are just shyer than others - especially if they weren't used to human handling when he was tiny. But if your cat lets you stroke and cuddle him, then it's probably just his personality. :)
@ Leafa - Treacle, Humbug, Samy, Paws and Toufkin (the cat who is not ours but yet lives in our house) have never had fleas. ;) There isn't really a hazard for cats to get dirty or have fleas by going outside, as all cats (with the exception of very old and ill cats) are actually careful not to get dirty, and lick themselves thoroughly when they do. :) Maybe you could ask your parents to reconsider about Ginger? ;) Though, if there's a busy road near you, perhaps it would be safer for her to stay inside.
My cat is only not allowed outside because our old cat got eaten by a dog..
ReplyDeleteWe de-clawed my cats, so we don't have the problem of them clawing up our furniture.
ReplyDeleteWe WOULD let them outside, but we live where there are many coyotes, and my cats would make quite a good meal for them. We're not willing to take any risks and have them get hurt.
